Commercial Hardware Structural Bolts

Structural bolts are designed for use only with heavy hex nuts for the connection of structural members. The specifications of structural bolts are laid out in two ASTM International standards: ASTM A325 and ASTM A490.

B&B Electromechanical is the leading resource for A325 structural bolts. With our huge inventory, we’re sure to have the right size, length, and type for your needs. Request a quote or contact us to learn more.

ASTM A325 Structural Bolts

The ASTM A325 standard defines mechanical properties for heavy hex structural bolts. ASTM A325 applies to all bolts from 1/2” to 1-1/2” in diameter; ASTM A325M applies to metric bolts in sizes from M12 to M36.

ASTM A325 structural bolts are designed to be tightened almost to their proof strength to provide significant bolt tension, and the standard states that these structural bolts must be tightened to no less than 70% of their tensile yield strength. Heads that are thicker and wider than average help to distribute the load on A325 bolts more effectively.

Structural Bolt Types

A325 structural bolts are available in three types, distinguished by the material of construction. Regardless of material, all ASTM A325 structural bolts are quenched and tempered for added strength, hardness, and toughness.
  • Type 1 includes medium carbon steel, boron steel, and medium carbon alloy steel bolts
  • Type 2 structural bolts are manufactured from low carbon martensitic steel
  • Type 3 refers to weathering steel structural bolts
